How should I prepare for my pet's annual appointment? 

When your pet comes into our office for his or her yearly visit, be sure to let our staff know of any questions, concerns or problems you have been having with your pet.  Your pet's visit is not only designed to make sure he or she is healthy enough to be vaccinated, but also to address any other issues your pet may have.  Many yearly visits consist of lab work, so be sure to ask if your pet needs to follow any specific instructions prior to coming to his or her appointment.

What is the process for having my pet spayed or neutered? 

We recommend spaying or neutering be done between 6 and 8 months of age.  Each pet is examined prior to surgery to help determine if he/she is healthy enough to undergo the surgical procedure. Current vaccinations are highly recommended prior to the surgery but can be administered at the time of surgery. A pre-anesthetic blood profile is available and recommended prior to undergoing anesthesia and surgery. Post-operative laser therapy and pain management are also available to help with your pet's recovery process.

How long do the sutures stay in after my pet's surgery? 

Procedures involving sutures require them to be removed 10 to 14 days following the surgery.  Some patients will have sutures that will absorb with time.  These patients do not have to return for a follow-up visit but should follow the same post-operative instructions as patients with non-absorbable sutures.

How often does my pet need to have their teeth cleaned? Is there anything I should be doing at home? 

Dental cleanings, which are generally performed by our licensed veterinary technician, are generally recommended based on the need of the patient.  Most pets have dental disease by 3 years of age and undergoing a dental cleaning can help improve your pet's overall health.  Dental cleanings can be done every 6 - 12 months, again based on the individual patient's needs.  

Brushing your pet's teeth can help decrease the build up of tartar, but will not completely eliminate it.  There are dental treats, foods, food and water additives, and mouth rinses that are available for use at home to help reduce tartar build up. 

Can my pet catch a cold or flu? 

Although your pet can catch strep throat, he can't catch a cold or the flu from you. That does not mean your pet can’t have an upper respiratory infection or intestinal disruptions. Coughing, sneezing, vomiting and/or diarrhea can all be debilitating for your pet and we recommending setting up an appointment with our animal clinic if your pet is suffering from these symptoms.

How often do you recommend performing blood work on my pets? 

In addition to having an annual physical exam for your pet, we also recommend performing a yearly blood profile. This yearly exam checks your pet's kidneys, liver, blood sugar and blood protein levels. It is very easy to administer these blood tests at the same time we perform the yearly heartworm test. For our senior pets, we may recommend additional blood tests.  

Patients receiving certain medications may require bloodwork for refills.  Patients taking medications such as pain medications (NSAIDS), phenobarbital, or thyroid medication should be monitored more often due to the effects the medications can have on the body. 

How can I make payments? 

Payment is required at the time of service and we gladly accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.  We also offer and accept Care Credit!

What is your cancellation policy? 

Please be sure to contact us if you are not able to make your scheduled appointment and we will be happy to reschedule you for a time that may work better for you and your pet.  

Do you allow urgent or same day appointments? 

Yes! We understand that emergency and urgent issues do occur, especially with our pets!  If your pet needs to be seen, we will work with you to set up an appointment as quickly as we can to get your pet the care he or she needs!

How do I choose a Veterinarian?
